umbrella tree

Scheffleras are evergreen trees or shrubs whose dwarf varieties are popular houseplants. Often called ‘umbrella plants’ because their glossy leaves fan out like parasols perched on sturdy stems. Most of the more than 600 varieties are a bright, solid green, but a few are variegated. They require minimal care, but these large beauties exert a sensational tropical influence on your space.

 how this nature nurtures you

Scheffleras give a happy, playful vibe to any room. They are said to bring wealth and positive energy into your home, and their outstretched leaves symbolize abundance.

Wonderful air purifiers, they remove toxins from the indoor environment. Their profusion of leaves help soften sounds, making your home or office more peaceful. Just as their leaves face upwards, they remind us to take time to gaze up at the sky and the stars.

 how to nurture your nature

Taiwan, China, and Australia.

Prone to root rot if overwatered. Water thoroughly, then allow soil to dry out 75-100% before rewatering

Bright, indirect

16-30 degrees Celsius

They love humidity. Mist often, or set on a pebble tray with water

Toxic to humans and animals if consumed

Feed every month in the spring and summer with an all purpose fertilizer.  Apply to damp soil so you don't burn the roots.

They benefit from pruning and can be propagated from stem cutting.  Here's a video that walks you through that process.
